Glasseater were formed in 1998 by guitarist JC and Julio on drums, starting out as a progressive rock band and incorporating other influences such as melodic rock, pop punk and the hardcore punk work ethic. The guys recruited bass player Willey, and Ariel from Set Apart as second guitarist, the line-up was then completed by Jason. Willey made it clear early on when an East Coast tour was organised that he did not want to be a part of the band and was replaced by Anthony from set apart who then after the tour was asked to join the band. After two tours they were noticed by Ides of March Records and released their first full length "Miles Ahead of Where We Left Off" (1999), after two more tours they were approached by Eulogy Recordings. "7 Years Bad Luck" was released in late July

Glasseater have toured the East Coast three times since there inception into the scene with bands such as A.F.I., Anti-flag, Avail, Cooter, Dillinger Escape Plan, Green Day, Midtown, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Millincollin, MXPX, NOFX, Save Ferris, The Hippos, Unwritten Law, Snapcase, No Innocent Victim, Hot Water Music, New Found Glory, Six Going On Seven, Cave In, As Friends Rust, Ensign, Poison The Well, Boy Sets Fire, Save The Day, Thursday, Brothers Keeper, Indecision, The Casket Lottery, Converge, Reach The Sky, Strike Anywhere, The Hope Conspiracy, Walls of Jericho, Stretch Armstrong, Strongarm, Shai Hulud, and Grade.

First of all if you could introduce yourself?

I’m Anthony and I play bass for Glasseater

Were you pleased with both the recording and reception that 7 Years bad Luck has had?

Yea all in all it was good for what it was...it got us where we are now so were happy

Have you any ideas how many copies of the album you’ve sold at all?

hehe nah im not sure…

How did the deal with Eulogy / Fearless Records come about? Are they part of the same company or did one of them buy the rights for the album?

Fearless were interested in us after hearing one of our songs from a comp and they got in contact with us they ended up buying us out of eulogy's contract.

How does it feel to be able to do this, be recording artists I mean, its every kids dream I suppose so does it live up to expectation?

Its awesome were totally excited to have our dreams come true and be able to do this full-time.

How is touring? Is the band a full time job; if so are you on the road all year round?

Touring is awesome we love seeing our friends from different cities and hanging out. Playing to kids every night is awesome...were on the road a lot...almost every month out of the year.

If it is the band you guys do full-time, how do you make money via and merchandise playing gigs?

Yea pretty much its through support of the label and kids that we are able to do this.

How old are you all, do you have families to look after at all? I’m 21, jc's 23, Julios 22, Ariel 22, and Dave our new drummer is 22...and none of us have families but jc is married.

When you wrote back to me you were like wow a straight edge kid in Europe! Are any of you guys Straight Edge and if so what made you guys make that change? For me it was not only the bands spreading the message it was the ideals involved because I used to suffer from depression it helped me to deal with negativity a lot easier. Everyone in the band is sxe except for me and everyone has different reasons I guess for being sxe...but speaking for them its just a positive message all in all I guess.

What are your opinions on the straight edge generally? Do you find it is still strong in the hardcore scene, I mean when you play shows do you see many straight edge kids in the crowd?

There’s still a bunch of sxe kids out there but in south fl there aren't many sxe kids…

Being of Hispanic origins what was it like growing up and eventually into Glasseater did you find at all it may have been more difficult for you guys because of that?

(because even though prejudice shouldn’t be present in any place in the world it is still there in the small minded attitude of the minority and so did you at any point find it difficult being involved in a predominantly white suburban (middle class) scene the reason being here in the UK people of ethnic origins are rarely seen at hardcore shows)

haha nah we've never had any trouble with any of that...we get along with everyone and vice-versa.

What has been collectively the favourite part of your careers in the band?

Every tour we go on, releasing a new record, and playing shows...its all the most amazing time of our lives.

Do you have a particular favourite touring band?

Nah not really.... We love playing with everyone it’s always cool to tour with new bands and make new friends.

Have you got any new plans to record anytime soon?

We just finished recording our new album, which came out July 23rd

What area in the US did you guys grow up in? How was it? Miami..Its alright...lots of traffic and humidity

Did you all know each other before the band started? Were you in bands before Glasseater?

J.C. and Julio knew each other through high school Ariel was in a band with Julio called Destro and I met everyone through Jason him and I were in a band called set apart.

How long could you foresee yourselves doing this? Could you go as long as say Sick Of It All or Agnostic Front for example and still not sacrifice quality and continue to be innovative?

We can do this forever as long as things go good for us...were always working hard and writing new stuff our music has always and is still progressing…

Have you got any shout outs to any up and coming local bands from your area you want to mention?

Yea totally...Seville, remembering never, trust no one, Unsilent Reign all great bands from south fl

Any last words you want to express / or get out of your system? Yea u can check out our website at www.glasseater.com, www.mp3.com/Glasseater, and www.fearlessrecords.com...our new record came out July 23rd so make sure to check it out

Thankyou to Anthony for taking the time to answer my questions and to Glasseater.
